How much does computer repair cost in Melbourne? Real prices for 2026
Most repair shops won't put a price on their website. Here are ours, job by job, and what actually moves the number up or down.
The most common question we get on the phone is "roughly how much?", and the honest answer is that it depends on what is wrong. That is not a dodge. A laptop that won't start might need thirty minutes of software work or a new drive, and those are very different bills. What we can do is tell you the real ranges, so you know what is reasonable before anyone touches your computer.
Typical prices, job by job
These are the prices we charge across Melbourne's south-east, including coming to you. Every job is quoted as a fixed price before we start.

Software or hardware: the biggest split
Software jobs (a slow machine, pop-ups, a failed update, a reinstall) run $80–180, because the cost is our time and nothing else. Hardware jobs (screens, batteries, drives, ports) run $120–350, and the main variable is the part. A screen for a common 15-inch laptop costs a fraction of one for a thin premium model, so we quote the actual part for your machine rather than an average.
What makes a repair cost more
- The part. By far the biggest variable. We tell you the part price before ordering.
- How much data is involved. Moving 20GB of documents is quick; moving a 400GB photo library safely takes longer.
- Several faults at once. A failing drive plus a swollen battery plus a broken hinge adds up, and at that point we will tell you whether the laptop is still worth fixing.
Why we don't charge by the hour
An hourly rate means you carry the risk of a difficult job. If the fault turns out to be fiddly, you pay for it. A fixed price puts that risk on us: if a repair takes twice as long as expected, that is our problem. It also means you know the number before you say yes.
When a repair isn't worth it
A good rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than half of what a comparable replacement would, think hard. A $150 battery on a laptop that is otherwise fine is worth doing. Three separate faults on a seven-year-old budget laptop usually are not. We will say so plainly, and we are happy to tell you what to buy instead.
