About
A local technician, not a call centre
Rapid Tech Solutions is a mobile computer repair business working across Melbourne's south-east. You deal with the person doing the work — the same one who quoted it.
We started because too many people were being told to replace machines that needed an hour of work, and charged for the privilege of finding out. So the diagnosis is free, the price is fixed before we start, and if it can't be fixed there's nothing to pay.
How we work
Free diagnosis first, then a fixed written price. If a repair isn't economical we say so rather than quote for it — and we'll tell you what we'd do instead. Most jobs are finished onsite the same day.
What we won't do
Sell you hardware you don't need, charge for advice given on the phone, or hand you a machine back without explaining what was wrong with it in words that make sense.
How we actually work
We are a mobile computer repair service covering Melbourne's south-east. Most jobs happen at your kitchen table while you watch, which we think matters — you can see what is being done, ask what something means, and there is no mystery about where your computer went for three days.
When a job genuinely needs longer than a visit — a data recovery, a board-level fault, a drive clone that will take hours — we take the machine away, keep you updated, and bring it back. You are told which of those it will be before we start.
What we will not do
The computer repair trade has a poor reputation in places, and it is usually earned by three habits. We have made a point of avoiding all three.
- We do not sell hardware you do not need. If your Wi-Fi problem is fixed by moving the router four metres, that is what we will tell you, and we will charge for the visit rather than a mesh system.
- We do not quote by the hour. You get a fixed price before work starts, so a difficult job is our risk rather than yours.
- We do not push replacements. A machine that needs one $150 part is worth fixing, and we will say so even when a new laptop would be a bigger sale.
Diagnosis before quoting, always
Nearly every repair starts with the same twenty minutes: checking drive health against the manufacturer's own error counters, watching which resource is actually saturated under real use, checking temperatures under load, and looking at what is running that should not be.
It is unglamorous and it is the reason we can quote a fixed price honestly. Guessing produces the pattern everybody has experienced — a repair that does not fix the problem, followed by a second opinion that does.
Who we help
Roughly two thirds of our work is households: family computers, laptops for school and university, Wi-Fi that does not reach the back bedroom, and the aftermath of scam phone calls. The rest is small business — shops, trades, and offices running a handful of machines where nobody is employed to look after them.
We are comfortable explaining things to people who do not enjoy computers, and equally comfortable being technical with people who do. Neither is treated as the default.
